Our History

1904

Don Dionis Samaranayake Jayaweera founded Jayaweera & Company as a ship chandlers and general supplier in Port of Galle, Sri Lanka.

Don Dionis Samaranayake Jayaweera (1879 - 1945 )

They are one of the main providers for supplying dry and frozen foodstuff, technical, deck, and engine stores for ships calling at Galle Harbour.

1945

After Dionis Jayaweera’s demise, his son William Jayaweera took over and continued the business as a ship chandler in Port of Galle.

1952

The company was renamed M/S Jayaweera Brothers & Co and expanded to Colombo Port as a cargo tally and supervisory company under Ceylon Ship Side Services.

1971-1975:

Jayaweera Brothers & Co provided cargo supervisory services for loading and unloading cargo for vessels owned by Ceylon Shipping Corporation.

In 1971, Jayaweera Brothers & Co joined as a service provider for tally & cargo supervisory services under Ceylon Shipping Corporation as a fully government-owned commercial enterprise. J.B. & Co was doing cargo supervisory services for loading & unloading cargo for the undermentioned vessels fully owned by Ceylon Shipping Corporation:

1978

The company was renamed Ridgeway Enterprises to handle supervisory services, supply private stevedores, and manage lashing/unlashing of cargo on vessels.

1988

After William Jayaweera’s demise, his son Kemal T. Jayaweera took over and expanded the business, renaming it Ridgeway Marine Services to include clearing, forwarding, and transport services.

2000

The company was incorporated as Helanic Tramp Maritime Pty Ltd., expanding into shipping agent services, chartering & brokering, and freight forwarding. Registered as a shipping agent with Director Merchant Shipping, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and Sri Lanka Customs.

Present

Present: The company opened a branch in Australia as Helanic Ventures Pvt Ltd.
